Tim Brando has covered sports in East Texas and the South since he was in high school, and appears daily on Sporting News Radio, and covering college football and basketball for CBS.

Did you know…

That Tim Brando is the 2009 Jake Wade Award Winner. It’s an Annual Award given by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Past winners include Keith Jackson, Dick Enberg, Tony Barnhart, Robin Roberts, and Dick Vitale.

That Tim Brando is the Host of two time Emmy Award winning Series Football Saturdays in the South.

That Tim Brando was the winner of the Distinguished American Award in 2001 given the National Football Foundation North Louisiana Chapter.

Tim Brando’s 15th year with CBS, and next year will be my 13th as Host of The College Football Today.

My work with the syndicated group Raycom, (formerly Jefferson Pilot) DATES BACK OVER 20 YEARS IN BOTH THE SEC AND ACC.

Tim Brando is in his 8th year of being the Pre-Season television voice of the 2010 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.

Tim Brando is in his 25th year of broadcasting Nationally, beginning with ESPN, later with Turner Sports, Fox SportsNet, and now CBS Sports.

Brando’s been broadcasting in the SEC for over 30 years, and actually began calling play by play at age 14 alongside his Father, Hub Brando, nearly 40 years ago.

Between 1994-96 Brando worked both Atlanta Hawks, and Atlanta Braves games including the 1995 World Series Champion Atlanta Braves.

Tim Brando has called 26 different sports, and 25 of those were on ESPN BETWEEN 1985-94 still considered an individual record for one broadcaster at the Network.

Tim Brando covered a Tornado during a basketball game at the 2008 SEC Basketball Tournament in Atlanta. It was a unique set of circumstances chronicled in a 2010 edition of Storm Stories produced by the Weather Channel.

Brando’s Dad Hub helped put the 1st television station on the air in the 50′s, and had 3 live television shows at that time. The children’s show “tops for toys”, “Search for Talent” , AND the Hub Brando Variety show which lasted til the mid 60′s in his hometown of Shreveport, La.

Tim, a drummer, and singer with his Dad’s band performed in places like Harmon Newfoundland, Goose Bay Labrador, and Islands of the Coast or Portugal at SAC Air Bases with his Dad’s band Hub Brando & The Dreamers.

To this day, I love everything RAT PACK! Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.

It’s from this upbringing my love of television history, and Musical History came from.

After my Dad’s band and television career ended I turned to sports broadcasting as something I loved and had always wanted to do.

While in high school and college I worked in local radio and television, including as a disc jockey where I worked with the Father of Blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepard. Once Ken Shepard (Kenny Wayne’s Dad) would allow Brando to play the role of Roadie, with Kenny Wayne’s group when he first visited the David Letterman Show.

Needless to say no one had a clue the guy toting the guitars was really Timmy B IN DISGUISE. ,Hence the 70′s rock, and R&B love affair listeners hear each day on my radio show.

Brando’s love of College football, and basketball is obvious, but it does not keep me from being critical of what’s wrong with each.

By example, the BCS WORLD IN CRISIS COUNTDOWN EACH DAY IS A REMINDER OF what’s desperately wrong with the sport I feel represents more of what’s right than any other sport.

The sound effect where the gravel voice say’s the “WORLD IN CRISIS was taken from a 90′s web site know as Homestarrunner.com, with a character STRONGBAD!

Brando’s daughter Tiffany tipped him off to the site when the countdown began in November of 2003. That year, Brando correctly predicted that USC could finish number 1 in both the AP, and Coach’s Polls and yet be left out of the BCS National Championship game.

As it turned out LSU did play Oklahoma not USC for the National Title in New Orleans, while the AP opted to give USC the final #1 ranking.

The meaning of the Brittany update….some may think we’re poking fun at her, but the truth is we are making fun of Entertainment news.

Celebrity jock sniffing has become a joke in this country. She’s talented, and from Louisiana and while there have been issues she’s rebounded each time. The problem has never been Brittany, it’s rather the fascination with her that’s out of control.

Brando still considers the FINAL FOUR the nations number 1 amateur sporting event, and SEMI-FINAL SATURDAY AS THE COUNTRY’S BEST DAY IN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS.

Dennis Miller is a five-time Emmy award winner for his critically acclaimed half-hour, live talk show “Dennis Miller Live” which had a nine year run on HBO.He also wrote and starred in the Emmy-nominated cable comedy special “Raw Feed”, his sixth such special. He was the host and executive producer of CNBC’s “Dennis Miller”, a topical interview talk show featuring reasoned discourse, opinion and humor. Additionally, Miller has appeared on many politically oriented television talk shows.

He has also been cast in films, usually in dramatic roles, most notably in 1994’s “Disclosure,” 1995’s “The Net,” and 1996’s “Murder at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

In October 2001, HarperCollins published the fourth edition of Miller’s popular rants, “The Rant Zone,” now out in paperback. Miller’s previous books, “I Rant Therefore I Am;” “Ranting Again” and “The Rants” have all been New York Times best sellers. For two seasons, Miller called the plays alongside Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts on ABC’s “Monday Night Football.” He was also the “Weekend Update” correspondent on “Saturday Night Live” for six years, before exiting in 1991. He has yet to appear in a show with the words, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday in the title.

Over the years, Miller has become both a public and critical favorite. The New York Times said, “Mr. Miller is exquisitely attuned to contemporary foibles…his material can be scathing, his delivery low key…Mr. Miller reaches a bit farther than most comedians for the scorching comment…this smart aleck has an uncommonly sharp eye…” and The Hollywood Reporter called his most recent special, “an hour of topical, scathing brilliance that helps cement Miller’s status as the Lenny Bruce of the new millennium…the most cerebral, astute and clever standup ever to put mouth to microphone.” August 2006

Favorite Quote: “Come to me my babies, let me quell your pain.”

He is now in his 41st year of talk radio. Since 1993 Neal has been holding forth on News Talk 750 WSB, a radio station with a 50,000 watt afterburner. Since early 1999 his show has been syndicated on radio stations from Maine to California and from Alaska to Florida. The program airs live from 8:30 to 1:00 pm each weekday. The latest count? About six million listeners nationwide listening to Neal on around 230 radio stations.
You’re not bored enough yet? You want more?

Neal was downloaded on April 6, 1945 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He didn’t particularly like the accent of the people up there so after a few weeks he convinced his mom to move to Texas while his Dad returned to fly airplanes around the Pacific looking for other airplanes with big red dots on them. Though Texas was always his “official” residence, Neal, like most military brats, lived all over the place. Some addresses would include Honolulu, Hawaii, Laguna Beach, California, Morehead City, North Carolina; Virginia Beach, Virginia, Pensacola, Florida and others.

By the ever-loving skin of his teeth Neal graduated in 1963 from Pensacola High School with something like a C- average. A good collection of Polaroid photos of a member of the admissions staff opened the doors to Texas A&M University, and off he went to Aggieland. It seemed impossible, but Neal was a worse student at A&M than he was in high school. He finished at A&M in 1967 and came to Atlanta, Georgia. He’s lived there until 2009 when he finally made the move to Naples, Florida.
Neal wasn’t through with higher education after Texas A&M. He entered law school in Atlanta in 1973 and graduated in 1977. This was the first time in his live that Neal actually paid attention in school. Because he paid attention he passed the bar exam on the first try and went into private practice immediately. He continued practicing law until he decided to devote his full energies to talk radio in 1992.
During his 40 years in talk radio Neal managed to find other things to do to supplement his meager talk radio income. Prior to practicing law Neal could be found working as a jewelry or carpet buyer, selling life and casualty insurance, loading trucks, slinging mail at the post office, working in an employment office, writing speeches for the Governor of Georgia and auditing the books overnight at a sleazy motel. Neal was 47 years old before he ever had less than two jobs. At his peak he had six. A few of them he actually did well.

When Neal is not on the air or giving a speech somewhere, he likes to spend whatever free time is left traveling with Donna. When she gets tired of him he heads for the golf course or for the skies. When it’s time to slip the bonds of gravity he can choose between a hot air balloon, his Mooney Ovation3. Neal’s prizes his Mooney for its ability to get him from point A to B without having to submit to a TSA groping session.
When Neal feels particularly frisky he will sit down and write. His first book, “The Terrible Truth About Liberals,” has been through six different printings. The FairTax Book, co-authored with Congressman John Linder, debuted as the New York Times No. 1 Bestseller. A book of his talk radio rants and politically incorrect thoughts, “Somebody Has To Say It.” Debuted No. 2.
Neal is a confirmed Libertarian. He believes that the principal difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats just want to grow our Imperial Federal Government and spend money just a bit faster than the Republicans do.

Neal’s wife, Donna, doesn’t listen to the show. Never has. This is good. This is why they have managed a life together or relative tranquility since 1973. Donna spends her time administering a charitable foundation she founded in 2005. Neal will tell you that the best status symbol any can obtain is a long-term marriage.
Run for office? Well, thanks for asking — but Neal’s afraid that the worst possible thing would happen. He might win. That would be a financial disaster for him. Neal is, however, toying with the idea of running for President on the Libertarian Party ticket after he retires from talk radio. He’ll run just once — and just for the hell of it. He will select the most qualified vice-presidential candidate possible just in case something strange happens and he wins. After he’s sworn in he will hang around long enough to sign an Executive Order requiring all airport screeners to have graduated in the top one-half of their high school class. He will ask his FAA Administrator to issue a regulation forbidding children under the age of 10 in first class on any commercial flight originating or terminating in the United States. Then he will free all non-violent drug offenders and take a few spins on Air Force One. Neal will then resign and let the vice president take the controls.
In 2009 Neal was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago by none other than Rush Limbaugh! When Neal wears his HOF ring in public people look at him and naturally think it’s a Super Bowl ring. Neal doesn’t let them get close enough to tell the difference.
